Ghazal by Shamsur Rahman Faruqi Steep and crimson hard and blue tall and far sky. Home to paling sun darkly flowing sky. Cold and quiet sable roadway trampled under rushing lamps. Wrapped in a cloak of holes, and scarry bright sky. Drowned for countless ages past and future in the traceless pond of night, With my waking suddenly brightening sky. Flowing, flying far on exploding light looking up, everywhere Right in my face what I see sky. A dancing, wandering spark in midnight's breast-- that was my attempt at being funny; Still and silent sky. [sur;x siidhaa sa;xt niilaa duur uu;Nchaa aasmaan] translated by the author |
