Mapping "India"
(What is "India" anyway,
and can we really map it?)

*some overview maps*
*earliest times*

REQUIRED WORK:

== Take a first look at *Indian Routes*, which was made largely for this course and which we'll be using extensively as an image source.

== Play around a bit with some maps-- see how South Asia looks from different approaches and perspectives, on the *National Geographic website*, or through *Google Earth*.

== And for an internal perspective, the *Census of India* website, with many maps and much data about the 2000 census.

== And do take a look at our own SARAI, the single best South Asian resource finder. (Though I have to say, I don't think my pages are so bad either.)

FURTHER RESOURCES:

= A "map" of some of the earliest photographs of South Asia: at the *Harappa website*

= A recent, vivid, candid travelogue about Bangalore (and much more): *"City of Boiled Beans"*
