The full series of 27 Ptolemaic maps by Girolamo
Porro,
Venice, 1598 (*title page*); and some of
his
modern maps:
"Fine, original, copperplate engraved maps by Girolamo Porro, from Geografia Cioe Descrittione Vniversale Della Terra, edited by Giovanni Magini, translated into Italian by Leonardo Cernoti: Venice, 1598. First Italian edition. Dimensions: 5 3/8" x 7" (maps); 11 5/8" x 8 1/8" (overall). The maps in Magini's edition of Ptolemy's Geographiae included the first reduced-size versions of the maps in Mercator's atlas. The first edition of Magini's Geographiae was in Latin and was published in Venice in 1596. The maps in the present edition were struck from the same copper plates. Magini's edition of Ptolemy contains 27 Ptolemaic maps and 36 "modern" maps derived largely from Mercator."
