Kailashnath Temple, Ellora (near Aurangabad, Maharashtra), c. 725-755, the crown jewel of the Ellora rock-cut temple complex. It was carved out of the black volcanic rock of a hillside; some 200,000 of tons of rock are estimated to have been removed in the process.
