"QUR'AN, TIMURID IRAN, 15TH CENTURY
Manuscript on cream paper 256ff. with 16ll. of clear black naskh with
notation in red and gold verse markers, blue and gold margins, sura headings
in white thuluth in cartouches of gold ground with spiralling arabesques,
within rectangular frame of blue ground with gold tendrils issuing polychrome
flowerheads, 'ashra markers with orange kufic within gold and blue roundel,
cartouche every fifth verse, juz' divisions in gold lozenges with white
thuluth, very fine double page illumination with surat al-fatiha and the
beginning of surat al-baqara, each with 7ll. of black naskh in clouds reserved
on gold ground, each flanked by side panels with gold and polychrome floral
arabesque, titles in white thuluth in gold cartouches, blue ground, gold
and black frame, blue borders with finely painted gold tendrils issuing
gold and polychrome palmettes and split palmettes, large gold marginal
palmettes, later red and gold morocco binding with flap, tooled with inlaid
doublures, slightly trimmed, frontispiece slightly rubbed, otherwise good
condition.."
