kaise nāz-o-tabaḳhtur se ham apne yār ko dekhā hai
nau gul jaise jalvah kare us rashk-e bahār ko dekhā hai

1) with what coquetry and strutting/swaying [in her gait], we have seen our beloved
2) the way a new rose would show its glory/appearance, we have seen that envy of the springtime

Notes:

tabaḳhtur : 'Walking with a proud and self-conceited gait, strutting; inclining from side to side in walking'. (Platts p.308)

S. R. Faruqi:

The opening-verse is by way of introduction.
