{1590,6}

kyā pūchho ho sāñjh talak pahlū meñ kyā kyā taṛpā hai
kal kī nisbat dil ko hamāre bāre kuchh to qarār hai āj

1) why even ask-- until the evening, 'What-all agitation there is in our side/breast!'
2) compared to yesterday, our heart finally has some rest/stability, today

This ghazal is the second of a set of two about which SRF makes special claims for an over-all 'musical' effect; see {1589,1} for his discussion. This verse has been included only in order to provide access to the whole ghazal.

Note for grammar fans: The second line makes it clear that today is quieter, while yesterday was the day of terrible inner agitations. Yet the hai in the first line is clearly a present tense. Thus we should probably take the second half of the first line as direct discourse-- as a quotation of words that the speaker repeatedly said to himself or others yesterday.
