kahā sunte to kāhe ko kisū se dil lagāte tum
nah jāte us t̤araf to hāth se apne nah jāte tum
1) if you had listened to our words, then why would you have attached your heart to someone?
2) if you hadn't gone in that direction, then you wouldn't have gone out of your own hands
In this ghazal, several verses have themes like that of {1683,1}. In the present verse, there's the same ambiguity about the speaker and the addressee that there is in {1683,1}. Although indeed, it doesn't have the understatement of {1683,1}.
Instead, the wordplay of nah jāte and hāth se nah jāte is very fine. The implicative style of nah jāte us t̤araf too is fine.
